July 14th 2018 Monmouth U3A 30th Anniversary Open Day
Saturday 14th July 2018
Over 200 people visited the Monmouth U3A 30th Anniversary Open Day at Bridges Centre on this beautiful summer day. Monmouth U3A is one of Monmouth’s largest charities, and visitors picked up Membership forms until they ran out. Everyone was impressed with the displays from many of the fifty U3A activities that included wide-ranging interests such as Science, Geology, French, Walking Groups and Mahjong. Jazz Appreciation played recorded jazz and there were Country Dancing demonstrations. However, it was the social buzz of conversation between members and visitors that created the friendly atmosphere. At the Summer Party in the afternoon, members were served with Pimms, and Jenny Robbins (Chair) introduced the Forest of Dean U3A Ukulele Band who performed nostalgic pop songs from the fifties to the seventies. The songsters and the audience shared party fare of savoury and sweet items, and strawberries and cream provided by the committee – and most importantly a specially designed cake made by Diana Wilkinson, (Social Secretary) which was sliced by Ken Winter and his wife Margaret, founder members in 1988.
